Hashing / Hiking in Grenada

Never heard about hashing? If an algorithm comes to your mind, then you're a computer geek!  This is not what this post is about.

Hashing is trail running / hiking in a group with a big focus on socializing (liming) afterwards. The Hashers proudly call themselves "Drinkers with a running problem". Every Saturday the designated hasher sets the trail, marking it with shredded paper. Watch out for false trails though which lead to a dead end. They purposely set them to throw you off track.
We did something similar when we were kids; it is called 'Schnitzeljagd' in German. We just didn't drink the beer afterwards. Have a look at the exact description on Wikipedia. It's quite interesting how hashing originated.

I finally made it to my first hash in Grenada.
It was actually the 850th hash over 29 years. That is an impressive number for a reocurring social event on such a small island.
This big event lurred an estimated 300 hashers! You can only imagine the atmosphere that afternoon.
Check out our short video of the Hash from today, October 25th, 2014 in Westerhall, St. David .

I can only encourage any visitor to Grenada to join a hash. It is a great way to meet people and see the beauty of Grenada beyond the main tourist sites. The event unites absolutely everyone and first time visitors, or "virgins" as they call them, are always very welcomed and always initiated.
